When I published UNDER THE WOLF MOON, I was in a rush toward a deadline. I thought I could edit someone else's work and write my own at the same time, and I was WRONG.
I was so unhappy with how it came out that I didn't really want to work on the sequel. The way it is now feels disjointed and hollow to me, even though I know people did enjoy it. I wanted to rewrite it entirely and add in all the bits that I had to leave out the last time. It's incomplete as it is, and I'm the only one who can see why. It was horribly depressing. So, I finally decided that since Birch Hollow exists in a multiverse, it's cool if I rewrite it. After all, Mandela Effects happen all the time there. Plus, I'm my own boss, so...I can do whatever I want. 😂
As I'm doing the rewrite, I'm feeling better and better about this book. And I'm so happy seeing all the pieces fall into the right places. The vice grip on my heart of that unhappiness about it finally let go.
At the same time, I'm writing CURIOUS, which is an ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND retelling, and the first in a series of retellings. I'm also working on the second chapter of my game on Mastodon, OF GHOSTS AND GODS. My upcoming album is almost complete, too. I just need to record/rerecord the vocals to four more tracks. And I'm zipping through Japanese on Duolingo! I miss a day or two here and there, but I'm trying to get to level ten before I switch to a different language for ten levels. There are thirty-nine in my queue. All of this on top of working my way up to Legendary in Hearthstone Standard, playing World of Warcraft when I can, crocheting a giant blanket, binge-watching shows (halfway through season two of SHADOW & BONE), and trying to catch up on book club (we're currently reading Peter S. Beagle's THE LAST UNICORN).
Needless to say, I am never bored. I have some plans coming up in April that I'm pretty excited about, and I'm looking forward to FanEXPO Boston this year. I might even have a table at an event in the near future!
Last year was a rollercoaster of grief and general badness, and this year is already a million times better. I'm so excited to bring everyone the new version of UNDER THE WOLF MOON, and the Alice book, which is the first in my new series STORY.
If you want to hear one of the songs off my new album, you can find it pinned on my Mastodon profile here:
You can also follow the tag #OfGhostsAndGods on Mastodon if you want to be a part of the Birch Hollow Universe and play the game!
